(to force sbd. to stay in a place 帶到一邊分開)

這個嫌疑犯已被警方拘留。

obtain (v)

(這個東西朝著自己握住)

She obtained the first editions of these books.

她拿到這些書的第一版。

pertain to (v)

per / tain = thoroughly / hold = relate to 與…有關

(完全捉住就是有關)

They are only interested in the matters pertaining to the island.

他們只對與這個島上有關事情有興趣。

retain (v)

re / tain = again / hold  = keep保持、保有

(to hold on to something without losing it  一直握著也就是一直持有 )

tenable (a)

ten / able = hold / can = can be held easily 站的住腳的

This theory is no longer tenable. 這個理論已經站不住腳了。

tenacious (a)

ten / ious = hold / adj. = holding tightly onto sth.  緊握的

(如果緊握著一個意見，也可以引申為堅決的)
